I was born in Liverpool in 1970 and immigrated to Australia November 1972. I proudly call myself Australian. I graduated Wanneroo Senior High School in 1987, having no real idea of what I wanted to be, just that I wanted to go to university. I entertained many different career options from vet, to lawyer and even foreign diplomat- though I didn’t have a second language. I always wanted to write, though Mum who agreed I should too, strongly encouraged me to “have something to fall back on”.

I completed my Bachelor of Arts at UWA in 1990 with a double major in English and Fine Art and a minor in History. I decided I wanted to travel, and having a teaching qualification would be useful, though I never wanted to be a teacher. In 1991 I completed my Diploma in Education at UWA.

From 1992- 1995 I was an English and Art teacher at Warwick SHS, and though it was difficult to interest some kids in reading, I loved being a teacher.

In 1996 I started teaching at John Forest SHS, but left during the year for the birth of my daughter Savannah and to travel through Europe. It was during this pregnancy I decided to start writing the novels I thought my students would have liked. I began my first manuscript With Vinegar and Brown Paper.

I went back to teaching part-time at Clarkson Community College, and I continued to try and get my manuscript published. The rejection process began and it was during this time I met some great people in publishing who encouraged me to continue writing.

I left Clarkson Community College just in time for the birth of my second daughter Willow. Now I was writing full-time, in between breast-feeding and nappy-changing. I began entering competitions and joined any writer’s association I could find. I wrote another three manuscripts in this time, (two YA and one adult). One of them was Destroying Avalon (originally titled A Person of Interest) which received attention from Janet Blagg at FACP, and became my first published novel.

I am currently enrolled in the Master of Arts in Creative Writing at UWA under the supervision of Brenda Walker, I am working on my second piece of adult fiction.

I live on eleven acres with my partner Jason, our two daughters, two dogs, a cat and a rabbit.

Book Graphic
Destroying Avalon

“I pictured the roughly made tablets with their tiny butterflies. An amazing experience inside a tiny pill. That morning I figured life couldn’t get any better. How could something that made you feel like that be bad for you?”

Mia and Sophie have been best friends forever- but that’s all about to change. Experimenting with alcohol, flirting with boys and dabbling in drugs, things quickly spiral out of control. And they finally realise how bad things really can get.
